Critical Acclaim and Expert Praise for Richard Power's "Tangled Web"

"After more than six years of chronicling the insecurities of cyberspace, Power finally decided to put it all together in a book. The result is Tangled Web, which explains in everyday terms for non-techie and security pro alike how and why cyberspace has gained a reputation as a bad neighborhood."
Michael Zuckerman, USA Today

"A riveting chronology of computer crime."
Joseph Szadkowski, Washington Times

"A voice of impressive logic and rational perspective--a nonsense trek through cyberspace without hyperbole, fear-mongering or undue conjecture. Power separates cyberscares from legitimate concerns."
Lewis Z. Koch, ZDNet Interactive Week

"Tangled Web reads more like a crime novel than a textbook and explains different types of crimes backed by specific cases and convictions. Economic espionage, identity theft, credit card fraud, cyber stalking and infrastructure attacks-- it's all in there."
Anne Saita, TelekomNet.com

"No one else documents the sweep of computer crime like Richard Power does. As a result this book is educational, intriguing...and downright scary."
Eugene H. Spafford, Director, Purdue University CERIAS

"A fascinating account of cybercrime that is packed with previously unpublished material about some of the biggest cases -- a great read!"
Dorothy E. Denning, Professor of Computer Science, Georgetown University

"A sobering and fascinating look at the severity of cybercrime. This is very real stuff, collected and presented by one of the best sources of security information."
Marcus J. Ranum, CTO, Network Flight Recorder

"Richard has done us all a service by turning on the fan and blowing away the smoke to reveal a room that has promise and pitfalls, the room where we are trying to make our lives intersect with technology. Richard turns his eyes-made skeptical by all the claims of Net Armageddon--and tells us that the risks and benefits in the Web are the same as in life itself: we will be able to solve them only if we recognize that they come from us."
Keith A. Rhodes, Chief Technologist, U.S. General Accounting Office

"Richard Power is one of the few people I know who combines excellent journalistic qualities with a solid background in information security. He also knows an awful lot of people in the field and these qualities taken together have enabled him to produce a fascinating and very well written book. The book is a must read. Though it is written to benefit a broad readership even the most seasoned information security professionals will learn something from it. Richard Power is an excellent writer with a fabulous overview of information security issues."
Niels J. Bergstrom, Information Security Bulletin

"Whether it be the activities of Vladimir Levin, the Russian cybercriminal who stole millions from Citibank, or Tim Lloyd, a disgruntled network administrator who caused millions in financial losses to his employer; occurrence after occurrence, Power shows how we are indeed in the midst of a cyberwar. Information security is far too important to be neglected, and Tangled Web clearly shows what happens when it is."
Ben Rothke, Security Management Magazine

"If Power is a cyber-prophet, he is not a doom monger. The final chapter is brilliant, and possibly worth the cost of the book on its own. 'Countermeasures' has more than 30 pages of eponymous guidance."
Graham Roberts, Network Security Magazine

"The intricacies and nuances of the case studies that Tangled Web features are impressive. Power details several comprehensive lesser-known cases. Tangled Web is a must read for all cybercops, prosecutors, information technology heads and policy makers."
James Christy, Federal Communications Law Journal

"Corporate America and government agencies, especially federal courts, should provide a copy of this book to its entire management team."
FederalCourts.com

"The strength and the intrigue of the book lie in Power's detailed, often personal accounts of particular cybercrimes and the investigations they triggered."
Susan Brenner, Prosecutor Magazine

"It's engrossing. It's enticing, and like hacking itself, it's seductive."
Caryn Mladen, Canada Computes

"A sobering smack in the eyeballs written by one of the major chroniclers of the world of information security."
Securitywatch.com

"An excellent book on cybercrime."
Bruce Schneier, Cryptogram

"Drawing on the wealth of material he has collected in his tenure at CSI and his access to the industry's leading figures, he delivers a compendium of vital statistics and case studies that proves the case without bellicosity or hyperbole. Tangled Web not only debunks some long-held myths but clearly conveys complicated information with superb skill and subtle definition…"
Patrice Rapalus, Computer Security Alert
